Coaching
what is coaching
The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines coaching as:
"Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential."
Coaching can be a hard thing to describe, and in reality, there's no substitute for experiencing it!
whY get coaching
Quite simply, anyone and everyone can benefit from coaching. You might be seeking it out for yourself, or it might be offered through your workplace.
-
You might be about to step into a new role or are considering changing roles, perhaps stepping into something that feels challenging - managing new people or projects.
-
You might be about to enter a new life stage, such as parenthood or returning to work after having a baby.
-
You might want to serve yourself and your team better and create a positive and thriving workplace culture.
-
You might have hit a point in your life which feels like a crossroads, and feel stuck and unable to move forward with clarity.
-
The scenarios really are endless...
We all have times in our life when we feel confused and could do with an extra bit of support to think things through. Coaching helps us to gain clarity on our current situation, to identify and remove any limiting thoughts or beliefs that are holding us back - these may be things we are aware of or things just beneath the surface that we haven't named yet. Coaching can help to shine a light on these and create more accurate and positive stories about ourselves - to work out where we want to be and to set some actions for how we will get there.
what to expect
The coaching process will help you improve your outlook on work and life, enhance your leadership skills, and unlock your full potential. My personal experience of coaching has been along these lines, and I know that this rings true for those I have coached as well. You can see testimonials here.
I believe it's really important to ensure we are a good fit to work together. That's why we'll always start with a free introduction call to find out a bit more about each other. Usually, this call lasts 30 minutes, and there is absolutely no obligation to follow up if it doesn't feel right for you. In this introduction call, we will start to explore areas where you feel coaching would be beneficial, or you may have a really clear goal upfront. We will maximize our time and co-create the coaching relationship based on your needs and goals.
Some other things you can expect
👍 A confidential space to process your thinking and offer reflection, enabling learning to maximize your impact.
💡 Intuitive and powerful questions to challenge your thinking and generate new ideas.
❤️ Exploration of your values, beliefs, and purpose, and how these align with your goals and actions.
🥇 Setting clear, ambitious, and achievable actions with ongoing accountability and support.
How will our work be structured?
People are unique, with individual circumstances, different requirements, and preferred ways of working. Based on my experience to date, here's how it could look:
-
An introductory session of 30 minutes, checking if we are a good fit, establishing some coaching topics, and proposing some powerful questions from the start.
-
If we are happy to work together, we will agree on an initial time-frame and the number of initial sessions.
-
Coaching sessions are usually 60 minutes, either in person, over the phone, or via Zoom.
-
I'll provide you with a space to discuss what's important to you. I'll listen, support, and challenge you with questions and feedback.
-
Coaching involves goal setting and taking actions. So between sessions, there is likely to be work for you to do. This shouldn't feel like homework, but rather actions that you feel excited and motivated (or helpfully challenged!) to take.
